Hi there,

Regarding this new resin, I had a question:

I see its viscosity data on your website, and it varies very much (500-1200). Is it just an estimation data or ?

This question is asked, I bet you guessed it, to know if it will be able to go with the infusion process.

I know a 450-650 mPa.s like your High Temp resin can be used in infusion in small parts (see here).

Thanks EC for keep on adding new products to open people's range of possibilities.

Hi Joe,

With the material being so new the true viscosity has not yet been measured, the figures provided are the lowest and the highest that it could be. I would make an educated guess at it being in the region of 550-600 judging it's flow by eye, I'd say it would infuse ok on a small part, albeit quite slowly. Defiantly one that we will be testing!

Thx.

Got another question tho. Say i want to make a bonnet or a door for a car.

Keeping any core out of the equation, would you recommend full carbon fiber  + EF80 (that resin supposed to be some kind of shock absorbing, right? ) without any diolen or kevlar?

I mean, would the impact resistance be slightly better than EL2 ?

Hi Joe,

Definately not. This should be considered a flexible resin and should not be used for anything other than when a flexible (rubber-like) material is required/desired. The impact resistance would be better than a rigid resin but you would lose almost all of the structural strength. It's hard to explain, maybe we'll do a video which shows the cured properties of the system. Looking at the shore-hardness numbers alone seems to give the wrong impression. It's much more like rubber than a rigid resin. As such, most applications will be something different to normal laminating.

All the best, Matt

Just trying to learn about how flexible it is without seeing it. Depends what people call "flexible" Wink

Now things are clear to me, thx Matt.

No worries Joe. I might make some samples up that I can send out to people or maybe do a very small sample sized pack so that people can do their own experiments without spending a lot of money on the full size pack. I'll keep you posted.
