I'm not too sure how familiar you guys are with this but thought I'd ask whether anyone has attempted with that technique. As far as I know, this is done with chopped carbon fiber strands under high pressure. At least that's how Audemars Piguet does it with their watches. Recently, Lamborghini started using this method as well for their Sesto Elemento concept cars.  Does anybody have a clue whether this can be done in a home-based environment or you need hi-tech machinery?

I have some used F1 carbon brake discs and the finish is very similar.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gua9egzwjOc

The process is similar to that video of how it's made, that chris showed us ... the small difference is that they dont "add" a resin but that the resin is allready in the fibers, like Prepreg... then they add heat and pressure

I've seen that few months ago, with the seisto element Lambo.

Imagine what this can gives us for Motorsport parts.

I dream for this Forged carbon conrods, Crankshaft, Flywheel, .... and so on!

And what gain for a Carbon Forged engine Block (instead of old cast...)

I don't see how this could be used for structural parts though as you've lost any strength through fibre orientation, its basically pre preg CSM

Maybe the production technic is designed for strenght reliability (high pressure, ...)

I think there is no way to use cf in any form as engine parts. carbon disc brakes are in fact carbon-ceramic. They are made out of "chips" of cf mixed with sillicone, then they are pressed and put in the oven for bonding everything together. Advantage of cf-ceramic discs is their heat resistance, steel discs work worse when the are hot, cf-ceramic works in every range of temp. sorry for my english, I live in Poland
