Hey guys, I'm about to buy my first ever FG/CF supplies.

I've found a local supplier (because shipping chemicals OS is $$$$ and a big NO NO) and have made a list of what I think I'll need to get started, both in terms of FG mould & CF part making.  In the future, I will be getting my composite fabric requirements from EC though BigGrin

Could I please trouble you guys to take a look over my list and let me know if there's anything else you think would be essential for a start up and or anything I probably don't need that I have included in my list.

Supplies List
  • 105 West System Epoxy Resin 1 ltr
  • 206 Slow Hardener 800 ml
  • PVA Release - 1kg (blue)
  • Demoulding Wax 400gm
  • Respirator Kit A1B1E1K1-P2 - Ammonia
  • Safety Goggles
  • Acetone 5 ltr
  • Isopropyl Alcohol 99%
  • Catalyst for Tooling Gelcoat 500ml
  • Tooling Gelcoat 1 kg
  • Catalyst - 100ml MEKP
  • Polyester Resin for Fibreglass Laminating 1kg
  • Plasticene Light Beige Modelling Clay 4kg
  • Mixing Sticks
  • Paint Brushes
  • Carbon Fibre fabric 2x2 twill 198gms
  • Fibreglass Cloth 130gm
  • Fiberglass Roller 12mmx70mm

Brand/product selection is limited, but this is what I have to work with.

With the above supplies, I hope to produce some simple wet layup CF parts which, when sold, will enable me to acquire enough funds to move forward to an infusion setup.

Thanks in advance

Gloves if you have not got them already.
5 ltr of Acetone is quite a lot. It is always useful but I would have thought 1 ltr would be plenty.

Brian.

Thanks for the feedback.  I've never had to use Acetone so wasn't really sure how much was needed. Smile  While the supplies are 'local' it's still an 80km round trip to get them and price wise 5L works out cheaper when you also factor in time and fuel.

BTW, yes, I already have gloves BigGrin  I probably should have mentioned that.

Be careful if you plan to use polyester moulds with epoxy resin. The two often stick together causing release issues.

Ahhh ok, that was going to be the plan.

What type of moulds would be preferable to polyester ones then?

epoxy based, vinylester or a specific "epoxy compatable" polyester tooling system.

Our Uni-mould system uses epoxy compatable vinylester gelcoat to solve the compatability issue, then is backed up with a low shrink polyester and CSM.

Thanks for that.  I guess I'll have to have a chat with my supplier to see what they have available that is compatible.
