Dravis (12/09/2013)

I have never had anyone, customer or not, ask about scratches, or if the skinned parts were more flammable than the original plastic parts ...

I have, he wanted a chopping board though....

I do not think the company in question is trying to deceive its customers, I just think they are promoting their products on some odd points, regarding the properties of the materials used ...

Does "Joe Public" think that adding CF covered in Polyester will make his car (Interior) more flammable ?  Does he think that the surface of Skinned parts scratch more easily than normal plastic car parts ??  Does he care? Rolleyes  As long as it looks good ...

I have never had anyone, customer or not, ask about scratches, or if the skinned parts were more flammable than the original plastic parts ...

They're not trying to deceive anyone.
If it were scratch proof, they wouldnt be sanding it, they would be taking an angle grinder to it.

Read it.

It says scratch RESISTANT, which it is.
Fire RETARDANT, which PU is.
Easy to repairable if damaged (i.e. if its scratched, you can sand it and polish it back)

What Dravis says, its a play on words for marketing purposes.  You will find 99% of business do it to a greater or lesser extent.

However it is IMO wrong if the way they do things is likely to decieve or confuse customers into thinking a product does more than it actually does.

This is just a mincing of words ...

The company of course wants to show that the product they offer has "exceptional" qualities, so they demonstrate the resistance to "fire" Because it looks dramatic on YouTube ...

Any well cured and polished PU, Polyester or Epoxy surface is as "scratch - proof" as any normal painted/laquered surface ...

Nothing ... and I do mean Nothing, is totally scratch-PROOF ... not even diamond ... it can be "cut" by another diamond ... so of course it is "a lie" to call something "scratch -proof"

If you tested the "Fire-proofing" using a Propane torch, you would get a very different result BigGrin

The video has been discussed here before. The fire resistance is pretty normal, they pour a flammable liquid over it and light that, it doesn't generate enough heat to actually damage the resin, its just like when you light alcohol on your hand, its hot but it burns off before too much damage
