first attempt making mitsubishi triton bonnet.

method of process.

Top Part

method : infusion
reinforcement : 1 layer cf + soric 2mm + another layer 200 gm cf

lower part

method : wet layup
reinforcement : 1 layer of 300g csm + 1 layer 200g plain weave fiberglass( bolted area and hinge area being reinforced with more fabrics)

hinge is made by bending a metal rod.

bolted area i used pop nut rivet.

original weight : 15kg

After weight : 6.5kg

Problems occur

- soric pattern is imprint through. when first clear coat applied, can see diamond shape of soric.

Zacomposites,

  unfortunately I cannot see the defects you were talking about with the print through... the last few photos look like an amazing bonnet to me!  nice work!  I could see a slight texture, but I'd say it's possible to simply flat that off and re-clear.  maybe the reason the soric caused the texture was due to the outermost layer of carbon not being heavy enough? what gram was the outer layer?

yeap. thats the one. the pic shown is after scnd time clear coat. i've wet sanded the first coat to remov the textured, but sure it wasn't good enough. maybe the third one will do. the first layer is 200g twill.

If the texture was on the surface itself, not visible in the weave, then i would suggest the part needed longer in the mould.

I have also seen print through with soric. If you can't post cure, you could leave the part under the sun for few days so the resins reach at maximum shrinkage and then sand flat and then reclear.
