Hi, Firstly just found this forum, what a great resource. So I have the following questions I would really welcome any advice on.

THE PROJECT - a simple carbon fibre dashboard, consists of a flat plat 6" wide with a 11/2" radius along one edge. Wet layed.

THE MOULD - I've use a simple sheet of 'Conti' board (chipboard with a white laminated surface) with half a plastic pipe to form the radius. This has be filled and flatted down with 800 Grit wet and dry, I will flat the whole mould with 1200 grit next. I attached a photo for reference.

QUESTIONS/ ADVICE
1) I plan to use Easy lease release agent followed by two coats of release wax, is this ok?
2) As I'm wet laying what Gel coat and resin system do you recommend?
4) I plan on mixing gently with a hairdryer on hand to help remove any bubbles in the gel coat.
5) Was planning of using 'Pro Finish 2/2 twill carbon fibre (to help perserve the look of the fibre and cutting would be easier), would 3 sheets be sufficent, its not structure?
6) Bristle roller.

Have I missed anything else ? Thanks in advance - this will be my first time working with Carbon however I have laminated G/F before.

Your plan seems sound to me.  Just be extra careful that the filler isnt pourous and is sealed before release coating. You dont want the part sticking.

We would recommend our
EL2 Epoxy Laminating Resin for the general laminating.

In terms of gelcoat I would recommend our
GC50 Epoxy Compatible Polyester Gelcoat as it can be brushed on with care and offers significant UV protection which may be useful for your dashboard.

3 layers would be fairly flexible in the middle but stiff as hell at the bottom due to the curved lip. 4 layers would stiffen it up nicely.  As its cosmetic you could use a woven glass for the backing layers to save costs.

Warren, thanks for your reply. One last question, in terms of sealing the filler what would you recommend. I'm using an automotive stopper for the filler so i guess its cellulose based.

Thanks
