Hello

guy i need help my friend wrapped me steering wheel in carbon and told used crystal resin i googled and its look like epoxy? so he sended me part and in shipment it was damages cracked in 2 places so i cleaned them and layed resin epoxy and putted tape around but what went strange that after couple layers and 48 hours i tryed to remove tape and it started to come with resin and resin started to crack how is that? now i mixed and filled with polyster resin i hope that gonna work.

i know result tommorow but thats strange why its started to crack and come out like never was attached to surface ! before laying resin like always i brushed with 280 dry paper layed nefras liquid to take out goosy surface and then layed but what i see not sticked to each other ...

anyone used that crystal resin ? is this work like normal epoxy or i need to know something? as on youtube it seems so bubbles appear after mixing.

from what i can see it is a resin for art,  casting and hobby, and for jewelry . not for composite laminates  per se as we would need. it's mix ratio is 2 to 1.
i was unable to find out if it is polyester or epoxy .

not sure how to clean up the mess you have either. solvent to remove any uncured resins and sandpaper to fix any delamination
 or cracking defects.

correct me if I'm wrong Brasco but it can only be epoxy or something like that...
It can probably not be polyester, because the mixing ratio of polyester and vinylester is with a small percentage of MEKP harderner (2-3%)

Tomdesign do you maybe have some pictures? did you sand enough around the area?

maybe that's the problem "all chinese use it" :p nice it worked out with polyester, should work as well with some laminating or repair epoxy resin normally

Hi

I attempted to make a casting of a piece I made using all kinds of adhesives like Uhu and evo Stick for example, all taped up with parcel tape. What a mess! the glue and tape adhesive reacted with the chemistry of the resin mix and turned to liquidy grunge which then stuck to everything it touched.  Yours sounds like a similar situation to me.  Not much help maybe but it's nice to know for future you can't mix these things together.
