I am working on a complex part that is proving tough for infusion. I have used 3M adhesive sparingly on the mould for the first layer with good results. But the remaining layers are difficult to lay up.

Has anyone run into issues using adhesive between layers of carbon fiber?

I can only speak from using Cytec's Aerofix 3 and Aerofix 2, but haven't experienced any negative effects from using it on the reinforcement fabric layers.

Generally speaking, the adhesion between fabrics is usually greater than between mould surface and initial layer, so you'd likely not need to use very much at all to get good temporary holding of the fabric layers, unless using very heavy or difficult to drape variants. I always try to use the minimum of reinforcement layers, so opt for a single heavy backing fabric over several lighter layers where possible.

Yes that makes sense to me. Thanks for the input

I've used spray adhesive before and it always seemed to leave a white discolouration in the infused part so not ideal, until that is, like Mark I tried Aerofix3 - wow! It dries clear in the infused part and allows for careful placement and replacement of the carbon cloth - I'm a convert!

Yes, it works great with EC's resins and one other that I've tried and I've yet to find it leaving any residue on the surface, even without an in-mould coating. It's certainly a godsend on any shaped mould
