Hi,

I was wondering when and how are you people using spray adhesive?

Couple of queations that comes to mind are:
Are you just for complex molds ? Do you use it on the first layer or do you skip the first layer that touches the mold and then put spray adhesive on the remaining layers ?
How do you finish a part that has a spray adhesive surface do you sand it or just leave it and clear coat it ?

Cause what I have been experiencing is that the adhesive leaves a mark on the finished part so I wonder how someone else is doing it

Best regards Marcus

It is likely that different products will react differently with different resin systems, so some experimentation might be needed

I only use Cytec's Aerofix 3 and use it with a couple of different infusion resin products, including EC's and it leaves no visible residue when used sparingly on the surface layer. I use an in-mould spray coating mostly, but haven't had any issues on parts made with no in-mould coating either.

To ensure really good weave alignment on both simple and more complex moulds I use the spray adhesive all of the time, on both the surface and reinforcement layers. It won't ensure that issues like bridging are avoided and good consolidation of the fabric is still required as vacuum is applied, but it does a great job of positioning everything whilst the infusion stack is created

I've no doubt that some products might not work so well in terms of cosmetics and structural integrity, but the Aerofix seems to be very well suited to the infusion process and EC's resins, in particular. It is also really useful for stabilising fabrics when a neat cut line is required

Mark has right.
I use Aerofix 3 as well but only on the first layer. For the reinforcements I use cheaper ones cause to compare to the others Aerofix is pretty expensive.
Altrought if you want to clear coat your part you have to sand the surface with 800 wet and the marks will disappear anyway...
