Good morning Max,

Thank you for getting in contact. The reason this may have happened could be that when you were sanding the resin, you may have gone up in grits to fast and missing some coarse scratches along the way. Sanding the resin can be seen as a fine art, it takes a lot of work and depending on the size, can take quite a bit of time. When sanding and polishing GlassCast, you will need to make sure that the entire surface has been sanded with the grit you are using before moving onto the next. A good way of doing this would be to sand in different directions each time you move up a grit e.g. starting with 120 grit, sand vertically and then horizontal when you move up to 240 grit. Doing this will help you to identify any scratches that may have been missed from the previous grit.

Once you have moved up all of the grits of abrasive paper, you will need to use a cutting compound such as NW1 polishing compound, this starts off as a fine grit paste and the more it is worked into the resin, the finer the grit gets. This is the what we used in out river table tutorial online. The TOPFINISH 2 is designed for application AFTER the NW1 to give it the ultra-gloss finish on the resin.

To get your resin to a high gloss you will not need to sand the resin again, but you will need to use the NW1 over the entire surface until it becomes glossy, you can apply the TOPFINISH 2 as the final application.

If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Kind Regards,

Tom

Make sure the resin is fully cured (evt. post curing cycle) as green resin won't take a full gloss, and on top of that the sanding dust is way worse for you...
