Hi,

I have some CFRP plates (High Strength Carbon Fibre Sheet 2mm 250 x 225mm) from EasyComposites. I would like to do some finite element modeling simulation, but the properties shared on the easycomposites website are very very limited.

Is it possible to get the accurate mechanical properties of the plate, like the orthotropic elasticity, strain and stress limits, damping factors...?

Thanks and regards,

Marilyne

It's always hard to get specific data for composite materials. This usually leads to making tests of your sample, and calculating the propertys backwards from there.

Sure, it's time-consumming. I was hoping someone has already done this work and would be able to share its paper. I tried to find in literature but they rarely mention the manufacturer of the plate they are testing...

Unfortunately we do not have a set of mechanical testing data for these sheets as yet.  We are hoping to do some testing in the coming months which should provide some figures you can use.

In the mean time, we specify the exact sheet lay up and fabric used on the sheet specification.  Combine that data with the IN2 infusion resin mechanical data and you should be able to calculate some figures to work with until you can do some actual testing.

Thank you. I hope you will be able to provide some data.
Indeed, I tried to calculate the matrix ABBD by lamination theory but I had to implement a lot of assumptions and I would like to correlate with actual results.

Hi marilyne16
I am trying to do the same as yourself.  Ideally the XC110 will be able to correlate to similar material in the NIAR database, this will enable me to conduct some stress/FEM work with confidence.  AT this time, without any tests this interesting material is to be either used a) at risk or b) for non-flying parts only.  Option a) will require some heavy knock-downs to the NIAR baseline.

Hi, you are talking about the IN2 infusion resin. Can I know the maximum temperature this resin can be used at once cured in the plate? (i.e. what is the maximum temperature the plate can be heated at?)

Thanks,

Marilyne

The sheet has a HDT of 80C.
