Hello,

I'm hoping to be able to use the 0.25mm pre-preg sheet to wrap around 2" diameter tube, is it flexible enough to do that? It will then be bonded in place with epoxy resin.

Also are you still able to achieve a pin hole free surface finish on such a thin sheet?

I've seen that you do offer a 'flexible' sheet, but its only in plain weave and I'd much rather have it in a 2 x 2 twill.

Thanks,

Nathan

Hi Nathan,

Yes, you would be able to get the 0.25mm pre-preg carbon fibre sheet to wrap around a 2" diameter tube. It would of course have a prepensity to 'spring off' but providing it was keyed properly before bonding and then bonded well onto the tube then I don't think this would be a problem at all.

Also are you still able to achieve a pin hole free surface finish on such a thin sheet?

Yes, absolutely! The 0.25mm sheet has a perfect, pin-hole free surface just like the other thicknesses of pre-preg carbon fibre sheet we make.

I've seen that you do offer a 'flexible' sheet, but its only in plain weave and I'd much rather have it in a 2 x 2 twill.

We use plain weave because it's a 'flatter' weave than a 2/2 twill. We have made the flexible using twill in the past but the texture of the fabric tends to print-through quite a bit onto the surface of the flexible material meaning that the flatter the material inside, the flatter snd less textured the surface will be. For this reason, we don't press any 2/2 twill flexible anymore (well, not in the regular thin flexible carbon fibre sheet, but we do use a twill for our thick flexible carbon fibre sheet).
