Cool video.... i wish I was a hacker i would sneak thru your computer and see the rest hahaha. Teasers are always a problem to me, I never have enough, especially when good quality is involved.

Very professional as always.

Cheers from Belgium.

I´ll make sure to post pics as soon as I get the first finished cast.
The stuff should be here monday or tuesday and I´ll dig right into it.
10 minutes after that I will probably be screaming for help.

I've just uploaded a sneak-peak video of the Uni-Mould system for forum members only. If you'd like to get a better idea of it (sorry, it's a LONG video) then you can see an early edit of part 1 of our new series here: http://www.talkcomposites.com/264/Sneak-Preview-Video--Using-Uni-Mould-to-Make-a-Mould-for-a-Car-Bonnet--Comments-Welcome?Keywords=Perforated%20film%20and/%20%20mesh?

Thanks to Joe, great advice as always!
My initial plan was to just use wet lay since i thought that infusion would be time consuming.
But after thinking about it and reading a lot I`m gonna go with infusion, at least for my bigger project and all projects that require high structural
strenght. I just now bought a big batch of everything i´ll need for wet lay, probably best to learn that first, then transition to infusion.

Any thoughts on Uni-Mold vs. Gel coat and Putty?

Hi,

The perforated release film is more used in vacuum wet laid composites. You wet your fabric in your mold with a brush or roller or whatever. Then you put your perforated film, then breather (that will soak excess resin thru the holes of the perforated film), then vacuum it all with your pump. Controlling the amount of vacuum in your mold will make you able to tune resin to fabric ratio. If you want to do so, always use the same amount of breather, and same film material and of course same amount of fabric. That way, the only thing that will change is the vacuum level. Weighting the fabric before processing and the part after its cured will let you know how much resin you have at the end. More vacuum will squeeze more resin out of the laminate. In general, people are looking to have 60% fabric and 40% resin. More resin will lead to heavier and weaker composite etc, less resin may lead to pinholes etc.

The infusion mesh is intended to be used in... infusion process. You lay your fabric in your mold, then you put peel ply, then the mesh, then vacuum bag. You pull vacuum with your pump, and then you can inject/pull your resin inside it all.

So, these are two different things. Then you need to decide which way you wanna build your parts: wet lay and vacuumed, or vacuum infusion (pulling the resin in last place once all is vacuumed).

The way I understand it the perforated film and the mesh has the same function, exept that the film allows excess resin to flow back up to a soaker, is this correct? Is that a better method than mesh without soaker?
If film and soaker is used, does that remove the need for the mesh? Does the film allow the same amount of flow during the infusion?

Also, i was going for the Epoxy Tooling Gel Coat and the Epoxy Mould Making Putty, but I´m now thinking of going with the Uni-Mould system, could somebody explain what the practical difference is?
