Evening all,

I want to make some carbon light blocks to mount my car's rear lights to. The current setup is a wedge made from what appears to be rubber - very flexible with a textured surface.

my question is; How do I prepare the wedge for making the mould using the uni-mould system?

Any tips gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

Sort of depends what kind of rubber it is. If it's a silicone (unlikely but possible), then you don't need to do much to it (but you will have trouble with getting the gel coat to form a nice surface on it!). If it is a natural rubber or a polyurethane elastomer (most likely), then you will need to use a release agent. For a natural rubber, PVA would be required to prevent the gelcoat from reacting with. For a polyurethane, standard release wax would do, or something like Stoner Rapid Release/Mann Ease 200.

Another thing to consider if the shape is quite rough, is maybe making a "splash" mould to use to make a rigid pattern which you can then sand shape and modify to perfection before taking the final production mould from it.
