Hi there just want a little advice.
I want to glue 30mm x 400mm x 1.5mm strips of Nylon to steel box section (painted with 2k satin black) to act as non friction layer between this frame and a further piece of steel.I want to ask what adhesive would be best, Epoxy like ET515, Polyurethane like PT326 or something else? The steel is mounted to the back of a 4x4 truck as a bike rack and therefore is exposed to the elements.
Thanks!
Owen

Hi Owen,

Nylon is one of the hard to bond to plastics due to being very inert.  Ideally we would recommend you use a specialist adhesive specifically for nylon as you will achieve a better bond. A point of note is that you would be better off bonding directly to the metal surface as it will be a stronger bond to metal than bonding to just the paint layer. Some customers have had limited success through preparing nylons surface with alcohol wipes and flame treatment prior to bonding with an epoxy adhesive but we would look at that as a last resort as a specialist adhesive would have a much more successful bond strength.

You might have better success with a 3m VHB tape. Many of the 59 series tapes are recommended for both steel and nylon

It is not a product we stock.  Your best bet is to try various adhesive manufacturers to see if they have such an adhesive in their stocks.
