Take an hour to ramp up to 55/60 deg C and then hold for an hour, after that start 5 deg C every 20 mins.

Hi morepower,

Upto now i have used a cure cycle with dwels of 65C for 2 hours, 72C for 1 hour, 80C for 5 hours at a ramp rate of 1C every 90 seconds. The parts are small and only 2 layers thick, i know its all about taking time to let it do its thing but if poss i'd like to lower the cure time and raise the Tg. Can you tell me is their any advantage having the 65C dwell for over an hour and how long will a last dwell of 90C take ?.

Cheers!

Ok. The advantages of a longer dwell will be allowing the resin to flow for as long as possible to get a good finish. I avoid speeding up a cure cycle as it could hamper the finish of the surface with the material I use. I know once it has gelled you can speed up the cure but I dont bother as I cure overnight anyway. The last sector should be reduced from 5 hours to 2 1/2 half hours but I would allow 3 hours just to be on the safe side...

If the final Cure Temp of 80C in a cycle takes 5 hours how long will a final Cure Temp of 85C take ?.

Cheers!

It should be about 3 hours 45 minutes. But you need to allow for the mould to heat soak too....
