Dear all,

When using the pump, some oïl began to rise up in the connector of the pump. We have no clue of the origin of the problem, so maybe one of you has already been facing this matter and knows how to prevent it? We do not plan to use again the pump since the problem is not solved.

For information, the level of oïl dramatically decreased but there was still the minimum content needed for good use.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Karine

Did this issue occur with the pump off after having pulled a vacuum? Do you have a valve between the pump and the chamber you were pulling a vacuum on?

Reason I ask, is if that is the case then this is common occurrence with vacuum pumps, I would wager that every person once new to composites has experienced it at some point Wink it isn't actually anything wrong, it's pure physics. The same physics that draw resin through a part in the resin infusion process actually. Without a valve, your vacuum pump achieves a higher pressure differential to the chamber you have pulled a vacuum on, and so you end up 'infusing' the oil out of your pump and into the chamber as the pressure tries to equalise.

Hello Karine,

This is a fairly simple one to solve. Before turning off the pump, you should always ensure that you close the quarter turn valve (fitted to the pump itself) - Otherwise the level of vacuum in the lines/bag will draw the oil out of the pump and towards the catchpot. By closing the valve, there is no way for the oil to draw up the lines.

Let us know if you have any further problems.

Richie definitely has this one spot on.

Before I worked in the industry I made the same error on a DIY project.  Luckily it was resin infusion so it was just my catchpot that was filled with oil!

Thanks a lot for your answers and your advice! The oil no longer rose during infusion. I did the mistake once, I will remember it for the next times!
