Are you trying to obtain a value that you can express in units, or a value relative to another material?

That's up to you isn't it!
It will depend on what you are comparing it to and the weight of CSM you are using! 2 layers of 0.3oz will be a lot thinner then 2 layers of 9oz !

Thanks ChrisR
So how many layers should be used for the shear test specimens?
ASTM d3518 has some notes for the number of the layers of WR and unidirectional, and there is no any thing for CSM.

Hello everybody
I want to define mechanical properties for Chopped Strand Mat (CSM) composite material,
But I have a problem with the shear test; CSM has random- discontinuous fibers and I don't know how to cut the specimen in _+45 for shear test.
Is it similar to tensile specimens?
Thanks in advanced
