Hi,

What is the best way to cut / trim and finish the edges of Kevlar / aramid parts after demolding so that they do not end up with a 'furry' edge?

I am using a high speed Dremel-type tool with a diamond cutting disc (the carbide discs are too thin and delicate, and shatter too easily) to cut the cured Kevlar but it leaves a slightly fuzzy edge. Is there a way to finish these edges so that they have a cleaner finish (like sanded carbon edges)?

Thanks,

Phil.

I use a kind of diamond coated sanding block, that my local builders supplier has in two grits 180 and 400.   after finishing with the 400, I sometimes just paint the edge with coating epoxy, superglue or use
leather "Edge wax"  the stuff you use when you finish the cut edges on leather work.. it is available in a nice black ...

Either sanding block as above or once youve achieved the correct edge profile, you can use a new razor blade to slice off any "fluff" on the edges.

Yup ... I forgot to mention that the "leather edge wax" also makes it much easier to trim any "fuzz" still poking out with a very sharp blade..

Use wet sanding to remove the Kevlar "fuzz'
