Group: Forum Members Posts: 157, Visits: 1.2K	Hi All Since finishing the bodywork on my Noble last winter my attention turned to finishing off other areas and specifically I decided to make my own design of seat. I wanted it to have a good weight saving and look good, but most important for me was that it was comfortable... Ive sat in a few seats that were simply head and shoulders above the rest in comfort for a lightweight bucket seat... The reverie one was fabulous, but at £2k each I couldn't justify it. This is the result... this is straight out of the mould with only a quick trim so I could trial fit the 2 sections together, will post pics after its lacquered and trimmed.... I have some issues with a few bridges that had filled with resin in some hard to reach areas but overall as a proof of concept it has met all my hopes. I overdid the layup on this with both parts being 200 pro carbon, then 2 layers of 650... not bonded then together yet but just putting them together they are difficult to flex. I expect them to be extremely stiff when bonded. Its comfortable even with no padding at all and fits my body shape with loads of support... I can also get in and out of the car easily which was a very important factor. You will notice the spred tow effect in the centre entirely inspired by Davro on his scoop Inner mould, spent quite a bit of time designing the seat belt recess and then putting them in place, I cut up the buck and fixed it in place by bolting through the mould, I can remove it if I choose to make a seat without these recesses. Initial Buck... I took a mould of this, then covered the newly made mould in 5mm wax sheet and then took a mould of the mould which gave the 5mm clearance between moulds.

Are the two cut outs in the base just for getting access to position whats going to be the captive nuts between the outer and inner shells? Did you use spray adhesive for laying up? If so, what type is it that you use? Craig

Craig Hi Craig Thanks, Im glad I've inspired at least one person to have a go the two cuts on the base are for the seat runners, which exist in the outside part but not the inner part... its only the inner part thats cut. I bonded in captive nuts with kevlar and carbon under them so to pull a bolt out it would have to rip the whole floor of the seat out... safety first. The seat is slightly lighter than the original one and much lighter than any of the cobra seats I have including the carbon one.. its also very very rigid. Ive started covering the seat as I won't be able to get it lacquered in time for Autosport so I thought Id trim it instead, doesn't look terrible in matt carbon anyhow and I will lacquer it later . Ive trimmed it in leather and left the top and back exposed carbon, the lower back and bum pads in the pictures are cloth and are from another seat and just there to give an idea as to how it might look (the end pads will be leather as well). I know I am going to be biased, but it is the most comfortable sports seat I have sat in and yet provides loads of support with minimal padding

Group: Forum Members Posts: 79, Visits: 1.3K	Jesus! That leather work looks great. Did you stitch that up yourself? Is the leather stuck to the carbon? From a previous thread it sounded like you used spray adhesive when laying up carbon? Do you stil use it and what type of spray do you use? Craig

Group: Forum Members Posts: 468, Visits: 2.7K	Tht looks great. How's the rigidity? I've seen a few aftermarket seats (lotus based) and they always feel a little flimsy to me. The only commercial ones I've seen that were rigid enough were double skinned Tillets.

Group: Forum Members Posts: 157, Visits: 1.2K	My car is on display at autosport till Sunday so I had a look at the tillet ones today, mine are actually more ridgid, they difficult to flex and MUCH more rigid than the FIA cobra one I have in the passenger seat. Mine is a 2 part seat

Group: Forum Members Posts: 157, Visits: 1.2K	Here is a couple of pics of the finished seat (still needs Laquer) upholstered in leather by me, no stitching required due to the way I designed it, leather and foam stuck direct to the carbon.
