Hello,

I want to apply a carbon fibre skin to some motorcycle exhaust end caps.  The existing end caps are already made of carbon fibre, but they have become damaged.  I was planning to repair the mouldings from inside using high temperature resin, then skin the outside.  Due to the cost I was considering using the clear high temperature resin and mixing in some black pigment to apply as a basecoat rather than buy the separate black basecoat resin.  Is there any reason why this would not work?

Black pigment in the high-temp Resin works just fine... I made some end-caps in Twaron/CF that were tinted green with the translucent pigment from EC ...
First batch got too little green tint in it, so it does not look quite as intended... next time I'll add more tint Rolleyes

You could consider adding graphite powder to darken the base layer, it will not be jet-black, but it will help with the heat transfer..
