I'm going to email perma grit in a minute about this aswel after talking to Ian Richardson at autosport but I just wanted to get an idea on popularity and if easy composites would be interested in it as you guys will have more buying power and persuasion than just me.
I use a DA sander to smooth edges and shape foam etc etc, and the cost of sanding disks is excessive IMO. I wanted to pitch the idea of hook and loop backed perma grit disks. Something simple like their swop block sheets made larger and circular with Velcro on the back.
The 3000 grit disks I use are based on a plastic sheet with Velcro on the back due to the fine grade. If you attached that to the thin steel backing with various grade grit, then you've got the excelent durability of perma grit which will never wear out! So instead of having boxes and boxes of normal disks, you'd just have 5 perma grit disks.
I have plans to make a version to test to make sure it will work well, but just wanted to see peoples opinions?

I'd be very interested. I actually thought the same when I first saw the Permagrit tools. When doing a paint job on a yacht we can get through up to 50 discs per job (80-400 grit). The only problem I can see is that after peeling them off a few times, the velcro would probably start to wear making them not stick properly. For such a long lasting grit maybe they'd have to come up with a new type of baseplate with some sort of clip on disc.

Good point on the Velcro. Would be interesting to know how long one wold last, normal Velcro can have hundreds of removals and still work.
I'm going to order some of there flexible sheet and glue it to these plastic backing disks and see what happens
