Thanks again Warren. Will the part still be polishable and can I abrade the 'positives' we talked about earlier.
Also when I fix together the two shells I'll be laying stripes of CF along the 'seam'. Wont I need then to gelcoat over to get a seamless finish?
When the resin reaches the vac outlet and all the cloth is saturated with resin clamp of the vac line but leave the resin feed line open. Resin will continue to be drawn in. (make sure you have plenty of resin in the feed pot) If you leave the feed line open until the bag starts to go slack you will have plenty of resin to flat back any imperfections in the mould.
Are you planning on having the strips along the seam on the seen side of the part?

Unless you need UV protection don't worry about a gelcoat just make the part resin rich. This is just one of the many reasons why I prefer Infusion over pre-preg.

The part I'm making is produced (via Resin Infusion) in two halves that will be fixed together, at a later time, at the edges with 25mm CF tape.
It's desirable to have a glossy surface on the part. Could you tell me about gelcoats???
Do I apply a gelcoat before the resin infusion process, and another after fixing the two halves together? What's the best way to do this?
Although I don't have a gelcoat gun, I have polishing equipment and the time for finishing...
Should I use the Clear Epoxy Gelcoat, or cheaper GC50, from Easy Composites?
Many thanks!
