Hi,

I've tried searching around for an answer to this, but can't find anything definitive..

I'm hoping to use the mound making kit to remake the seat unit on my motorbike - it's in three pieces, so shouldn't be too difficult - but I keep seeing the words 'destroy original' or similar, and I was hoping to re-use or sell the originals..

Is it possible to make moulds from painted plastic parts without destroying them??

Thanks for any help.

Hi

The answer is yes with care you can take moulds without damaging the original parts, of course if you have any raised decals on the parts these will be visible in the mould but some 1200 wet & dry and some polish you will be able to remove the evidence. I have used EC products every time and of course easy lease is a must, when you remove your original parts from the mould use plastic body filler spreaders not screwdrivers and chisels etc and all should be ok. If you are new to the world of composites and mould making study the EC videos and make sure you are confident in all areas before you start.

As Chris said it is possible. One thing that caught me out was cheap spray paint reacts with the gel coat even if it's been on there for well over a year!!
