i know of a person using a converted flight case with a heating element and PID as an oven.
I managed  to purchase a couple of cheap lab ovens  of ebay and converted them to cure prepregs, and ive made a couple of kingspan ovens in my time too using a fan heater for post curing larger parts.

As above dont scrimp on the controller.

If I were to buy a PID now I would look on YouTube and choose the one with the most how to videos. I have an Omega, which works very well but there are no comprehensive videos on YT. I have now got my head around it but it was a steep learing curve and videos on how to program it would have been very useful.

With regard to mounting, they all just need a flat plate with a hole :-)

I don't think the Omega's are that bad, their instructions aren't the easiest to understand but they're easy enough to figure out. They are also just very good controllers, mine holds my oven to within 0.2 of a degree all day long, and has very good control of the ramp rates.

The Chinese controller I have used was terrible, sure it was as easy as pushing the up and down button to select the temp you want, but not only did it not have programmable ramp rates, it would also fluctuate the temperature around 1 degree above or below the target temp. For pre-preg, that's enough to ruin a part or cause a load of post work. I wouldn't place as much weight on ease-of-use as I would quality of control, once you learn how to use the thing you'll never forget.

Agreed, I just had a lot of trouble getting my head around the programming, old brain I guess :-) If there had been some how to videos on YouTube it would have saved me a lot of grief :-) Now that I can program it it is, as you say, very accurate.

Links are hard to provide when we are all based in different countries. Just look for fibreglass insulation for roof bats. Kingspan is a well known brand, personally I used Earthwool. You don't need the megaexpensive sheets of it, just look for the cheap rolls that typically have a layer of aluminium foil on one side.
