Hi everyone,

I’m new to this Forum and I’m hoping someone could kindly provide a solution or product to help me.

Basically a new Carbon Fibre Bonnet has arrived. However when fitted its approx 2cms too short from the front, where the bonnet with meet the top of the bumper. (I’ve tried to add pictures but it’s taking and age and keeps timing out?)

It’s taken ages to get the bonnet made and another lifetime in delivery. The manufacturers have been very kind and given me a refund.

I’d like to keep the bonnet. I just wanted to ask if there was any solution to this?

Is there any way to produce a ‘Carbon Lip Extension’
to cover the gap?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Sid

There is no solution that won't be a visible solution, save extending the bonnet and then skinning the entire bonnet in another later of carbon - which is no solution at all really.

I feel the best looking solution might be a seperate 'lip' like this:

20mm is extremely far off, pretty ridiculous that it can happen. Can the bonnet even latch properly? I would be tempted to say that the manufacturers mould for this bonnet is no good and they wouldn't be able to provide you with a good replacement even if you did want to wait.

Yes, I think the mould they used was too small.

I’m happy with a add on ‘Lip’ type solution. I appreciate it won’t be perfect or blend in but at least the gap with be shortened and look better?

Any advise on who I could go to have something like this produced for my car? I’ve searched the internet and there is nothing available for my model of car (BMW M4) so it will need to be a bespoke piece.

Thanks

Having something completely original produced for for your car in carbon fibre would be an expensive business. Generally speaking, in composites, there can be considerably more time and expense involved in producing the moulds to make a component than to make the component itself. For this reason, I think it would be quite likely that the bespoke lip extension component you're wanting might actually cost more than buying a new bonnet again.
