How to clean S120 coated moulds?

Group: Forum Members Posts: 34, Visits: 94	I have a mould that has been coated with S120 to leave a nice glossy finish. Thanks to another problem I now have lots of raw infusion resin on the mould surface. Can I clean this off with acetone or easy composites mould cleaner without damaging the S120 surface coating? If not, is there anything I can clean the in2 resin off with and leave the S120 surface intact? Any experiences gratefully received, thanks.

Cured resin is pretty inert and solvents won't do anything. Assuming you have applied release agent the traces should come off with scotch tape that you rub on so it sticks nicely, or with just a bit of compressed air.

Group: Forum Members Posts: 2.5K, Visits: 28K	If you scrape the bulk off and then use dry rags to remove the majority of what is left, then you should be able to use a bit of acetone to clean up the remaining residue without hurting the S120. S120 is pretty tough, but acetone is a harsh solvent and you don't want to go soaking anything in it. Use it as sparingly as you can and it should be fine. Very unpleasant job, I feel for ya!

Group: Forum Members Posts: 2.5K, Visits: 28K	Are you sure? Epoxies don't really tend to go off like that. When they do, the hardener chrystalises like sugar. Normally just takes half a day in the oven to restore it like new. Irrelevant in any case, just thought I'd mention it in case you have another issue that could bite you again!

I'm not sure to be honest Hanaldo. All I know is that I weighed out 100-30 ratio of IN2 resin to hardener in a 50/50 slow/fast mix. It infused for 35 minutes - seemed v-e-r-y slow compared to previous ones I've done. It then sat for a 5 days at 18-22 degrees and would normally be hard. I accidentally cut the bag after 5 days so ended up de-bagging it. It was soft and sticky. I left it three days at 20 degrees and then ran it under a heat lamp at 60 degrees for 12 hours - no change, still sticky and soft so I junked it and am now cleaning up the moulds for a fresh attempt with new resin and hardener. I confess I didn't think the hardener would have gone off but it was over 2 years old so that's what my money is on (quite literally! :-))
