Hi all

First post and i am after some advice.

I have a CF bonnet made from wet laying in a mould.  As you can see, there are some clear black lines around the vents at the top of the bonnet i would like to polish as well as 2 small raised resin marks which i would like to sand back and polish

What are the best practices and recommendations to sand and polish these?



To me it looks as if the resin as built up and hand hasnt been polished leaving a dull black look
I would like to try and correc this as much as possible

Also i would like to stand some raised resin marks back since they protrude out by a millimeter on the side and polish

Be very careful when sanding that you don't go into the fabric itself as if you do, it can ruin the cosmetic effect.  Remove only a small amount of material at a time then reassess to see how it looks. I would try polishing first and see how it looks before getting aggressive with the sanding.

What products do you suggest from your range?  As you can see it's not on a large flat surface where I could use a large wool and cutting agent. Could this been done via hand?

Am I right in the assumption that you did not make the part yourself? because this looks like a black gel coat to me that was put in place there to hide some crimes. so in that case it would probably be a bad idea to start sanding

Polishing wise, start off with something like our NW1 Super Cutting Compound Black which is quite a good all round polishing compound and see if that gets what you need.  If not then look at sanding as an option to flat the surface back and get it smooth again. NW1 can be used by hand with a microfibre cloth or on a polishing machine with a medium/firm pad.
