Hi All

Just thought I would ask some of the experts here.

Am I right in thinking this is pre-preg with a matt clear coat? I can't see the traditional laminating / skinning process giving this finish as the fibres feel like they are exposed if that makes sense.

thanks

I guess it is just moulded plastic. Doesn't look like carbon to me. could be Extremely carefully wetted skinning with a matt clearcoat, too. It is certainly not prepreg, as it would have been compressed with a plastic back and therefore would have a semi glossy uneven surface with bag wrinkles.
Maybe it is a cheaper "carbon" foil wrap, they look like this too.

I was thinking the same if it was prepreg the fibres would be compressed, as these don't seem to be , so maybe your right a moulded plastic. however it does look
like carbon fibre maybe just a different laminating process.
This picture might be clearer.

Doesn't look at all like carbon fibre to me. There is no shine variation on each filament. The pattern on the brake lever seems unnatural. Looks paleish grey, completely misses the living spectrum of real carbon fibres.

That's a plastic part that's had a wet lay ply put on top with not a lot of resin in it

Thanks Guys

Rob , when you say a wet lay ply , I assume the same process as you would with skinning or I am wrong?

Just putting the dry carbon fabric on top of the part and simply not using a lot of resin ?

Thanks

Yes, i would put money on this being a soft touch TPU wrap.

The pinnacle of bad taste basically 😉
