Hi all, see video, this is the main pivot part of the rear suspension on a bike, the alloy part has come loose and I need to sort it obviously it needs to be extremely strong to cope with jumps ect, what should I be using and how strong would the bond be ?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi, as you have a reasonable gap, I would suggest the VM100 Methacrylate adhesive; unlike PU and Epoxy adhesives, it has an etching property so bites into both surfaces to give an exceptionally strong bond. You'll need to thoroughly clean and degrease the mating surfaces to make sure that there are no surface contaminants and use a file or sandpaper to abrade the surfaces as much as possible. It also copes with shock and vibration well.

The VM100 has around 7 minutes working time and reaches handling strength in around 20minutes but realistically, I would give it a good 24 hours if you're able to before using it.

Thank you Rich Ill get that, what do you recommend to degrease with ? I have some brake/clutch cleaner and have a few bottles of isopropyl alcohol, would these be sufficient ?

Oh one last thing, when I have done it is there a need to protect it like wrapping it in tape or anything ?

Shouldn't be no; once cured, it shouldn't need any protection particularly.

A update as promised, after 3 pretty rocky rides theres no problems so far so thanks again Rich. 

 

PS:The bikes a Yeti 575 if anyone finds this from googling how to fix one.
