Hi,

My names Jack, recently graduated from Loughborugh University with a 2.1 (hons) in Materials Engineering.

Noteable experience with composites:
  • I spent a summer placement working for TRB lightweight structures who manufacture honeycomb panels. So quite a lot of experience in manufacture and design there.
  • My 3rd year dissertation which i achieved 76% on, titled "Ultra high molecular weight polyethyle composites", was a 6 month project using a new form of polyethylene with biaxial weaved carbon fibre to produce a composite of very high impact resistance.
  • I have had a wet lay up composite hobby for a few years now. I designed an air duct through Solidworks, did CFD, made the mould and have attempted with CF.
I now work for BAE systems doing failure analysis and as a part time hobby am looking to increase my knowlegde and practical experience of composites. I have bought "competition car composites" by Simon McBeath and so far it seems pretty informative.

I am currently trying to get my boss to allow me to go to the NEC on the 7-8th November for the composite engineering show BigGrin

The hobby, in bullet point 3 is the main reason I have joined the club. I would highly appreciate guidance and tips when I startup a project log.

As far as supplies go I use the host's of this Forum and I can certainly recommend their products and more importantly to me the technical know how and advice. I have recently started my own Composites Business and they have been very helpful, as has this forum.
