Hi,

My names Jack, recently graduated from Loughborugh University with a 2.1 (hons) in Materials Engineering.

Noteable experience with composites:
  • I spent a summer placement working for TRB lightweight structures who manufacture honeycomb panels. So quite a lot of experience in manufacture and design there.
  • My 3rd year dissertation which i achieved 76% on, titled "Ultra high molecular weight polyethyle composites", was a 6 month project using a new form of polyethylene with biaxial weaved carbon fibre to produce a composite of very high impact resistance.
  • I have had a wet lay up composite hobby for a few years now. I designed an air duct through Solidworks, did CFD, made the mould and have attempted with CF.
I now work for BAE systems doing failure analysis and as a part time hobby am looking to increase my knowlegde and practical experience of composites. I have bought "competition car composites" by Simon McBeath and so far it seems pretty informative.

I am currently trying to get my boss to allow me to go to the NEC on the 7-8th November for the composite engineering show BigGrin

The hobby, in bullet point 3 is the main reason I have joined the club. I would highly appreciate guidance and tips when I startup a project log.

Hi, and welcome. From the sound of things we may be picking your brains? If I can help with any advice (mostly learnt from previous mistakes) just let me know.

Regards Warren

Hi Warren, Cheers.

In terms of conventional CF epoxy composites I know a fair bit of theory, unnecessary to any end user, such as me trying to do it myself.

Im eager to get back into my hobby development, so will post some CAD sometime. Ive had lots of problems with CF so may used FG. I am not confident with choosing the right supplies for what I want, so I guess once people have seen the design, mould etc they could advise.

As far as supplies go I use the host's of this Forum and I can certainly recommend their products and more importantly to me the technical know how and advice. I have recently started my own Composites Business and they have been very helpful, as has this forum.

Hi nice to have you here!
I'm more of a "practical" industrial engineer, I've worked on a researchproject last schoolyear on how to make composite parts and ways to finish them. Project is finished but I'm so fascinated by the material en techniques I'm continuing on it in my spare time.
maybe we can share some advice and ideas in the future here Wink
