Hey guys, i am the founder of nuke optics, still a small sized eyewear company. We are currently working on a project creating an eyewear system entirely made of carbon fiber composites with the following specs
1) made of CFC (carbon fiber composites)
2) 3 sunglasses and 4 eyeglasses
3) sunglasses allow prescription via rx clip
4) interchangeable and modular
And the biggest challenge to bring it down to $59 SGD or $45 USD a set. The materials itself in my research has rarely if ever been used and i can understand why in eyewear. For carbon fibre composites in eyewear you need to get the carbon fiber % vs composites right otherwise its too stiff etc. But its such a strong but expensive material. For those who wanted to see how carbon fiber composite in eyewear looks like , check the pictures. It has a very unique texture. This was made in the earlier part of our research as a prototype. We got the composition of carbon fiber WRONG, so while it was so strong .. it was basically too rigid and extremely tight. The good news is we have found a different composition that works and hoping to have a good end result.
So here are my questions
1) how many of us would go for a carbon fiber composite eyewear
2) What do you all think about the project if its worth pursing... i want to but... it just insanely expensive in a small quanity and for a small company.
