You can predegas both components before mixing for a long period of time. This will remove any moisture that the resin and hardener has absorb after it has been opened. This will also help your potlife be more stable as moisture will make your resin kick faster. 

If it is soft then it hasnt cured properly.  Could be due to the settling of the solid matter in the container meaning if you dont shake it properly you might have hardness issues.

The P6 PU resin is also quite moisture sensitive so if there has been a reaction that might explain it, although i would expect there to be a lot of trapped air too (it gets a lot of air in as it reacts with moisture and  in extreme cases can even foam.).

Thanks for your reply.. I will get a new pump for a better vacuum!

I am having other problems too using P6 to cast a gear cog, the result is a soft chewy item that snaps easily.. any thoughts on what I’m doing wrong?

Ideally you need a pump that can get as close to full vacuum as possible to something like 29.9 in hg or similar.   At that level the resin should degas fine.

Also be aware that P6 is quite moisture sensitive so this time of year some of the extra bubbles could be due to the moisture causing a reaction so try and take care of your working environment.

Hi there

I’m not having a lot of success degassing P6 two part resin.. is there a particular negative pressure I need to achieve?

I’m wondering if the pump I’m using hasn’t got enough oomph!

Though it works fine for the silicon mould making part of the process?

Your thoughts would be appreciated!
