Hi, I intend to build a Carbon/Kevlar Roof for an UTV. The dimensions are 1,0m. x 1,3m. , I need to have a strength similar to that of an aluminum plate of 5mm. thickness (it's a flat plate with the first 15cm. folded at 30 degrees)
I'm thinking of build the piece by infusion.
What do you advise me? - thickness of the laminate; number of layers of material; do I use only Carbon Kevlar 2/2 Twill or Carbon Black Twaron layers, or should I insert some layers of Carbon fibre Biaxial, etc...
I thank you for any help.

A 5mm thick roof of solid laminate would be quite heavy.  You might want to consider the use of a structural core, such as 3mm Lantor Soric or 3D core.  Both are easy to infuse and will help product a stiff but still reasonably light roof panel. You can use a a mix of carbon kevlar or twaron down to personal preference.

Thanks a lot for your help. My idea is to use a Carbon Twill 200g. as first layer for a nice and clean look, the piece doesn't need to have 5mm. thick, I only want that it can resists to hard impacts or if the UTV capsizes doesn't crack.
