Hi I have recently made a sheet of blue carbon layered with black carbon and I'm having some trouble. The coloured carbon doesn't seem to have soaked any resin up and when sanding seems to fray very easily. 

The coloured carbon cloths use a polyester fabric for the coloured section. The polyester is tighter woven than the carbon itself so it is a bit harder to soak up resin than the carbon.  This could explain the fact it frays easier and does not have the same amount of resin in it when sanded.  

Normally when infused, the slower infusion process for larger panels means the polyester fully wets out before the resin begins to gel.  This can be improved by slowing down the infusion.  For a wet lay, you can help by using a bristle roller to consolidate the layers as the bristles will help get the air out and help the resin get between the fibres.

Interesting. The carbon running through the blue polyester seems to have wetted out as it should. This was done using infusion. Maybe a slower speed will help. The surface layer is as it should be, glossy and bubble free but as soon as you sand it all hell breaks out. Thanks for the quick reply.

I would expect the carbon itself to wet out fine as its not so tightly woven and seems to soak up the resin better. I would have a go at slowing the infusion down and perhaps leaving the resin feed open a little longer to make it slightly more resin rich.
