So I'm just a 16 year old kid introduced into the world of composites just a few weeks a go and I have been hooked on how they work and their different properties. Recently I have come across different types of weave for carbon fiber instead of just the the regular weave. So what i would like to know is how, say, the triaxial or quadraxial weave differs from the regular weave and how I might be able to obtain some on a consumer level since there isnt much information about them that i could find on the internet to satisfy me.
Thanks
Nick

Quad, tri and biaxials are simply four, three, and two layers of unidirectional fabric that are stitched together at varying orientations to give you strength in multiple directions. The benefit is that unidirectional fabrics have less crimp than woven fabrics, so they are stronger and can have a lower resin content. So you could have a biaxial fabric with 0/90 orientation, which is the same fibre orientation as a woven plain or twill fabric, but it will be stronger (weight for weight) than the woven.
They are commercially available, but less so than woven fabrics simply due to demand. I believe EC have a triaxial carbon that you can purchase in small quantities.

Hi Nick and Hanaldo,
We don't have any Triax at the moment; Biaxial is available though in 300g +/-45' Orientation.
