I haven't tried the misting bottle. It wouldn't atomise the PVA, so I don't think it would be possible to get a very good finish. But I think the important thing would be to protect the plug and the mould surface, which requires a decent coating of PVA, something I never managed to achieve by brushing or wiping. You can always rub the mould surface back and polish it up, but repairing an alligatored mould and binning a plug is a lot worse...
