In a youtube clip about carbon fiber guitar production (Composite Acoustics factory tour) They were talking about applying an adhesion promotor before the clear coat. Have any of you knowledge to share on this topic?
Thanks
Fred
PS this is an excellent factory tour I highly recommend you guys watch it.

Hi  fgayford,

I asked a friend who is a professional sprayer but with not much experience spraying carbon fiber about adhesion promoters.

He said adhesion promoters are used over dry or aged basecoat's sometimes old is 72+ hours lol.
Sometimes mid coat adhesion promoters are used before you continue spraying, no sanding keying between coats, the adhesion promoter gives is the tackiness that it needs to continue the clear coating.
It was suggested that the adhesion promoters could be used on naked carbon fiber to kind of seal the surface before clear coat.

Never used adhesion promoters myself but it's quite interesting the only one I found in my local car spares was a rattle can 1K rattle can adhesion-promoter.
I will try to give them a call to see if they stock 2k version adhesion-promoter, as sometime I leave my clear coats for longer than 72 hours and an adhesion-promoter would save a lot of "keying in"

Are these the videos ?

Hope helped Smile

I've used adhesion promoters before with very poor results. Quite possible that the one I tried was just poor quality, but it isn't something I will use again.
