Hi everyone. I am new to making parts out of fibreglass and carbon and want to fully understand best methods before diving into various projects. One project I have is I want to make a hoop style spoiler like the ones found on the tailgate of a Toyota supra. There seem to be different methods detailed all over the net but I thought I would ask you guys for the best. Couple of simple questions:

1. Is it best to make it out of foam first then just glass over the foam?
2. Is it best to make two half moulds?
3. If I make it in 2 halves what is the best way to bond them together so it won't split over time,
4. Best way to sink mounting threads in the base of the spoiler?

Thanks!

Hi
1. Is it best to make it out of foam first then just glass over the foam?

yes that way we do here samples for the mold. then sand and prepare part like to the paint job. what i do i brush to 800 grid or simply laquer surface so when taking mold surface you getting straight and mold glossy.

2. Is it best to make two half moulds?
depends what you want to make if oem piece like interior then 2 pieces mold give you cosmetic finish and also gives you preassure to part become more stable from pressure. If you do wing or Hood you need double side mold.

3. If I make it in 2 halves what is the best way to bond them together so it won't split over time,
when you finish second half mold do not demold but get drilled and do holes all over the mold near corners so after that take our item do new as example wing, lay glue around put 2 pieces together and where holes are for 10mm or 8mm holes put bolts and lock them all over. i hope you understand my amazing english Smile)
