Oh, also I just checked on gov.uk and you can drive a CAR on your AUS licence in the UK for 12months as long as you have a full AUS licence. If you've only passed in an automatic then you can only drive an auto over here.

I dont know much about this but when I went to the UK last year I stayed for 3 days in London then went to Birmingham for 2 more days and took the MEGABUS (costed me around 10 pound to go to birmingham and return as well) its very cheap and it took me around 3 hours to get there.
Found out while being there trains were extremely expensive (at least for me, in belgium we pay around €15 for a similar trip)

Thanks for your help guys, very much appreciated. It's surprisingly difficult to find this sort of info from Australia.
I'll look into hiring a car, but I'm under 25. In Aus you will pay through your nose if you are under 25. Is there a good cheapish company that I should look at going with?

Not sure as I haven't hired a car for a while but a quick search came up with this place:

There are also the usual suspects, avis & enterprise

Having spent 4 years+ in Manchester, I can tell you that buses/coaches are a lot cheaper than the trains, less frequent, and slower.
As far as I remember the coaches between Manchester and London were less then half the price of the trains, and took close to twice the time to get there

Time is the deciding factor for me really. I'm happy to pay for things, as long as I get to where I need to go on time! To be honest, hiring a car is very appealing right now just because of my tight schedule. Thinking in MPH will be fun too!

You could order some fake ID and driver's license and then rent a car for like real cheap.
Aren't there any "I'm driving from A to B and can take three people with me for 10 bucks gas money" kind of services in GB? They are very popular in mainland Europe.

Haha of course! This forum has catered for everything! :p
That sounds like a great way to get molested... But, if anyone is driving from London for the EC training course, I'd love a lift! Haha.

It's actually pretty safe since drivers and passengers are verified and rated by other users. It's very popular over here.
