Unless they have changed the formulation recently or offer a different version in the UK, we found in testing with infusion, Aerofix 3 had a negative effect on surface finish.

We have yet to find a spraytack that is perfect. If we could find one, we would almost certainly stock it as finding a perfect epoxy spray tack is one of our customers most common questions.

I unfortunately don't have any pictures of a piece I've done without a top coat. I'll finish the piece I'm doing on Monday and get some photos on Tuesday. I can say with 100% certainty that the stuff I am using has absolutely no effect on the surface finish no matter how heavily you apply it.

Hanaldo, does the Aerofix 3 you have come out of the tin tinted blue a bit like PVA? My supplier sent me a tin yesterday. Label is virtually identical to the one in your picture apart from it being manufactured by Cytec.
Hoping this is the "holy grail" we have all been looking for.Wink
Also do you oven or ambient cure? I'm wondering if this has an effect on the surface finish.

Yes that's the one. Sprays on blue but dries as a white powder. Generally I ambient cure, as I only have a 600mm wide oven, so most of the parts I do these days don't fit in it. I try to post cure in the sun during summer, as I can get a steady 90 degrees C for a good 4-5 hours.

Sorry Brian,

I missed your post on the last page. I did take a picture or what the asterix says, but when I could get it to embed I didn't bother posting it. The asterix says that they have tested the Aerofix 3 with major infusion resins, but recommend that individuals do their own testing. It certainly works with the 3 brands of infusion resin I have here.

Hi Fred. Thanks for the nice comment. Good to hear from an experienced person that I'm heading the right direction.
(and yes, I'm addicted now,  lol)

Hanaldo, thanks for the information. It'll be interesting to get to the bottom of all this.

Well,  I'm off out to the garage for more carbon. Hopefully get a photograph later today.

Hi Hanaldo, any pictures of the parts using Aerofix 3 without the in mould gelcaot. I infused a part with the UK equivalent I received Friday and can see no difference to previous versions, it is still visible on the surface of the part.

Sorry mate, have been dealing with disaster after disaster here. Always a stressful week in the office before a race!

Never actually got round to infusing the part I was going to do on Monday until just now, so give me 24 (probably more like 36) hours and I'll get some pictures up!

No problem. I am beginning to wonder if the semi perm release agent I'm using is affecting things (unlikely but possible).  I have ordered a couple of different ones so that I can do some direct comparisons.
I'm attending the composites show next week so will be asking questions and on the look out for anything new out there.
