I'm looking for a carbon fibre material upon which to sit materials to be furnaced; what is the maximum working temperature of the carbon fibre sheet or fabric materials?

The process currently operates between 900 and 1000 C for several hours, will any of the materials be able to withstand these conditions?

As a very short answer, no, carbon will definitely not be suitable

not sure about this one, but the carbonfiber will be able to stand high tempareatures.
The problem is the resin won't...

I Guess it is extremely difficult to find a resin to stand that high temperatures Smile
max 200°C I think

There is a ceramic resin carbon used in exhausts that goes that high , its used for exhaust shrouds in f1

As stated the carbon cloth hasn't got any problems.its the resin systems

Will find the details for you on Monday

Its mad material thou (its a pre preg) an you only have a 30 min out life/ usable window

after cure we post cure at 350 and you can reach in the oven and pick it up with your bare hand

Under what conditions? Oxidising atmosphere? I doubt you can use the carbon for long at 1000°C. The bigger problem is the resin/binder anyway.

Why not use a ceramic, or simple graphite? Metals should work, too. Unless you look at exotic materials like reinforced carbon-carbon these are the only options that make sense.

That's graphite with embedded carbon fibers. Expensive, that material might cost more than the oven. Just use the normal stuff I mentioned above.

Never seen a data sheet for it but depending on race/exhaustcoatings an design the panels are seeing 1000-1100 deg for most of a 2hr ish race distance

As above, the key problem is the resin system itself.

Thanks all, confirmed my suspicions that this is unlikely to be suitable, or a very niche mental material.

We're operating in quite a harsh environment, hydrogen atmosphere and often highly caustic liquid by-products. Ceramics are next on the bill...

Cheers!

Graphite. Can be machined easily and is quite temperature resistant.

Graphite was the first thing we tried a couple of months ago. Gave serious degradation (cracking, shattering) in the H2 atmosphere when in contact with the potassium metal by-products- a known K-catalysed reaction between H2 and C to give methane. Alumina ceramic plate is the next port of call. Thanks all.
