Hi blackNdecker,
When you apply the gel coat start from the top and work down, dip your brush in the gel and dab a couple of splodges on,then brush across horizontaly then repeat this as you go down the door once it is all covered then strike down vertically and evenly this will take any excess gel to the bottom then return the excess gel to the pot! Leave for a couple of hous at least then repeat!! Hope this helps??
Kind Regards

The fillet wax arrived and I massaged it into all crevices:
All done:
I got one good coat of Meguiars wax laid down before the fillet wax. Now I'm thinking I will spray 5-6 coats of PVA then give another try with the gel coat.

Do 5-6 coats of release wax, 2-3 mist coats of PVA and then 1-2 heavier coats of PVA.

Thanks Hanaldo!
I went back and cleaned up the fillet wax and straightened up all the lines so that my cut lines will be easier to see. I'll start on the PVA tomorrow.

D-day goes down on Friday...
This epoxy resin should be compatible with the Easycomposites coupling coat? I also have high quality polyester resin in case it's not....gotta read up more on the characteristics of the coupling coat.

You want to build the mold with West epoxy and apply it to the coupling coat?
You better do a small experimental mold first, I am not sure this will work. The uni-mould system uses a vinylester tooling gelcoat and both the coupling coat and tooling resin are polyester based. I am not sure the West will properly bond to them.

I have used epoxy as the tooling resin on a polyester gelcoat with one layer of 225 csm and polyester resin as a 'coupling' layer, and that worked fine. Obviously different combinations though, so I would also recommend doing a test first.
However, if you've got the polyester resin, why not use that?
