Hi

New to the forum so bare with me

I am a woodturner and want to cast wood in resin , some of the wood is very porous and so need stabilising

I have used polyurethane resin with very poor success,Would using infusing resin work in my case

I have a pressure pot and I'm sure I can get a vacuum pump

 Any help is greatly appreciated

From what I understand polyurathene and wood do not mix well, the water within the wood reacts with the PU and causes bubbles etc.

It depends on what you intend to do with the wood but maybe polyester resin would work better? Epoxy would definately be unreactive but it's 5-10x the cost of polyester. If you intend on using it for food then you need to source a resin that is OK with food or do a top coat to seal between the resin and food

To stabilise wood you should try thinning epoxy resin with epoxy thinner and brushing it on the wood. It should soak in rather remain glossy on the surface.

You can also use a product called everdure which is also pretty much a thinned epoxy.
