I have the opportunity to buy a vacuum pump that was originally used in an ambulance for clinical uses. The seller is selling it used for $30 whereas a brand new pump of this model would cost $280. The only issue is that this pump can only reach a pressure of 550mmHg (21.6 inHg). I know that a perfect vacuum is just under 30 inHg which means that this pump would only be able to pull a 73% vacuum. I've never done a resin infusion and am wondering if this pump will do. Any advice is appreciated. Also Here is a link to the pump description:

I am sorry but you really need a complete vacuum for infusion. It will cost you a lot more in wasted materials than you will save by buying this pump.
Brian.

A decent vacuum pump isnt really all that expensive. If looked at from the big picture, this is an expensive business/hobby or whatever you are in it for. Its difficult and in my opinion unwise, to save on tools and materials in this application.
An excellent all round vacuum pump can be found here:

There are more professional options available out there, but from here on the price just goes up.
cheers
