for me, it'a a bad idea use the storage in photo.  You can ask to a storage factory a new factory without a bottom, then do the door and settle and check the welds. Rimember, an autoclave is a big bomb...if you have a 1 m diameter door, with 5 bar of internal pressure, you have many tons of thrust....

If it's a used storage, probably has rust inside, so the thickness is less of 8 mm. Meanwhile, you can open it and see its condition. The biggest problem is that if it explode, it's like a bomb. The storage in photo is also damaged, so I would not use that.
Time ago I see a depliant of an autoclave, thickness is 6 mm, but I don't remember what kind of material was

Hi there...

Using an old "pressure vessel" or Tank as a homemade "autoclave" may seem like a good idea, but it all depends on the pressure levels you are looking for  and the temperatures.

Normally tanks of that type are made for the sort of pressure levels found in water mains or compressed air tanks, in effect a maximum of 7 - 10 Bar ..

Someone with the right skills could cut off one domed end and weld on sufficiently thick flanges to allow the tank to be opened, but doing the specialized revolving door "Bayonet" fitting setup seen on the commercial autoclave, takes a lot of knowhow and machining.. and money ...

only other way is to use a large number of bolts and wing-nuts or similar on straight flanges, welded on to the end of the tank and use one curved end as the lid/door, also with a welded on flange.  It will be very slow to open and close, and a right pain to keep it pressure tight..  (Large rubber seals needed around the flanges)

Then you need to think of the heating systems inside a pressurized tank... heating up the air will increase pressure ... quite a lot actually ...

There is a reason why commercial autoclaves are so expensive.....

"Sapere Aude"... Dare to KNOW!

The written word is the only truly efficient vehicle for transmitting a complex concept from mind to mind...

103% of all people do not understand statistics...

Do not adjust our mind, theres a fault in reality :-)

yes i agree this hold 8 bars. and in good condition. i talked to guy to cut and to do doors to other genious i talked he do everything inside and outside and third guy do sensors and computer that can regulate air preassure and heating with digital monitor and sensors all over!

i think that gonna be great autoclave? what you guys think? if this be good i got license im thinking to start suggesting these for sale with all papers and hardware 10 times cheaper then normal autoclaves! i think they get very good interest in sales!

Hi Tom
It looks like a storage tank and not a pressure vessel but either way you can not just sell pressure vessels or any other equipment without the correct testing and documentation,  this is one of the reasons for the high price of an autoclave. If you make one yourself and it goes bang then that is your problem that is unless any other person or there property is involved, you would be leaving yourself wide open to prosecution and more thank likely some time in prison. Sorry to seem so negative but we live in a litigious society/world.

Don't do it, it is too dangerous to play with these things.
The pressures are dangerous.I went down the same path as you. I ended up using a large industrial spray pressure pot and made it into an auto clave. It was already pressure tested and had about 65 gallon capacity. Look around on this site I have pictures of it posted some where.
