To the experts.

1. Is it a mistake to try and use a polyester molds for this prepreg? ( it didn't deform for me)

2. Is 24HG of continual vacuum enough or must it be 29.9 HG?

3. If the surface of the part was completely covered with large pinholes what would be the possible cause?

My first attempt was a mess. My first mistake was I used the wrong vacuum tubing and just like Matt said it melted. So I quickly attached the right stuff I just happened to have and it took the heat of 225F. I thought all looked well but in the morning there was a sizeable leak in the connection into the bag. The bag was still reasonably tight, perhaps this caused the pin holes. But I really need to know about the polyester mold as a problem or the lower vacuum level.

I tried a test piece on a piece of glass. I used Easy lease and maintained a 25HG vacuum at 212 f over night.
The piece came out perfect. SO low vacuum with a leak is a doomed part. I will retry the part that failed again in the next week or so.
This is a polyester mold and is a split tube mold I am bagging from the inside. This bagging technic worked, eccept for the leak.
I really don't like those vacuum ports through the bag. I can never get a good seal. Perhaps it will take practice.
I will use the regular tube through the flange method as in infusion.

Hi Fred,I was at Banbury today with a friend using pre preg and this is not be all solution to a perfect finish,I personally get better results from infusion I found that you have to slow it down,my way is never use mesh to perimeter only in the part when resin hit peel ply its like hitting a wall,getting back to your question you want absolute vaccum,I know the easy composites use a resin rich surface layer to help with pin holes,but most off the structural parts I have seen are not cosmetically perfect.
