Looking into pre preg.

Can any tell me roughly the full cost per sqm for using out of autoclave xpreg carbon? All layers needed including bagging materials etc..

And then cost of clear coating.

Cost of running the oven (easy composites)

Just trying to gauge the average cost of 1 small part made say wing mirror cover size.

Thanks

I agree with Steve, the finishing, process materials and energy will be no problem compared to other methods.  The big money will come with the infrastructure to deal with pre-preg - the freezer, oven - and the material.  Your tooling will need to be somewhat more thermally capable - but not a huge deal compared to what would be needed for infusion or wet-layup.

If you are doing production parts, the ease of handling, and reduced cycle time of a hot cure can save you cycle time over infusion or hand layup for small parts.  You never have to mix resin!  For a part that size, press molding might be an option for even faster cycle time. Labor cost will be the biggest ticket item either way and if you can use multiple tools or a fast cure cycle, pre-preg can be very competitive.

Is this a high-volume part or a one-two-three off?  How thick?  Thicker parts may get more expensive if you have to debulk the layup.
