I decided to make some carbon doors for my Noble... unlike the rear clip that was a self made buck to my own design, this time I stripped the original and took moulds of the inner and outer so its effectivelly a replica of the stock part but in carbon.... 

Also turns out it will be significantly superior as when releasing the moulds from the buck I discovered the standard door edges are made from P40 and filler so the original moulds must have been terrible.

For this part I wanted it strong with some crash protection (unlike original) so on the outer skin I used: 
200g carbon
650g carbon
3mm soric
210g Carbon/kevlar
210g Carbon Kevlar

Inside skin hasnt been pulled yet but will not be as heavy as the outer skin so I plan:

200g carbon
200g carbon
2mm soric
210g Carbon/Kevlar
210g Carbon/Kevlar

door bars by design are there to allow the doors to open in a low impact shunt... manufacturers like to call them 'side impact bars' instead as it rolls off the tongue better and helps to sell cars.

as far as I am aware there isn't a test for side impact on high volume production cars and in fact its a rare accident.

The only reason I would add side bars is if they were welded into the chassis and thus strengthening it as well as adding protection... however I would prefer to get in and out of the car.

I had the doors sprayed by a local paint shop that knows carbon well (paint carbon ferraris and high end aftermarket carbon preparation)... I wanted effectivelly a primer coat so I could use the car before its sprayed in a couple of months.

The preparation was:
- sand and fill with black repair resin the edges/bonded joins
- spray Resin infusion resin onto panel (thinned down slightly with meth)
- Sand and flat
- Spray single layer of laquer

So basically 2 spray coats, first resin to seal the carbon, second laquer.

The panels need flatting again and further colour and/or laquer need applying but for a 'primer' finish Im very happy Smile
